This post is only funny if you know Swedish!

Abdel: Du är farmor! Jag är.....*tänker*...farpor?
V: ....?
A: porfar? formar? Farmar? Parfar?? morfpor?
V: do you mean farfar?
A: aaaaah! FARFAR! Du är farmor. Jag är farfar!

dish from southern thailand

I don't know why, but lately I have been crazy about making thaifood. I Have some sort of thai food craving or something. Maybe I miss my mum? I don't honestly know. Maybe I cought the asian bug or found the true asian half of me, not sure about anything but this: I love thai food. I love the spicyness, the herbs, the wierd smelling fermented fish and shrimps, I love noodles and I love rice. I love love LOVE!

This dish is a fairly easy to make, it goes quick and has very few ingredients.
You start by taking a snapper of medium size. I bought this snapper fresh in a market for $6 AUS, which is about 40 swedish crowns. The gutted it for me for free but I don't know how common that is.
cut the fish on each side diagonally. Make as many slits as you can fit with a little more than a centimetre apart
the filling is comprised of 4 or more pieces of garlic to your liking, about 2 or 3 pieces of turmeric (gurkmeja in Swedish) (I payed $2 for 100g at the market) and a little bit of salt, maybe half a tablespoon.
mix it in a blender or ground it together with a mortal and pestle.
stuff the fish with it, (even the stomach cavity) while you get the wokpan heated.
pour a rich amount of vegetable oil or peanut oil or similar and wait until it is hot. Put the fish in and cook about 5-6 min on each side. finished!
Super yummy!

Thai evening

My friend Kayla and I decided to have a "thai evening" for all flatmates. I did the shopping and most of the cooking (all but the salad, who Kayla made) and it was great! As a pre course I made a tangy soup, then we had 2 main courses, side salad and dessert.

As a starter I made tom yum soup. Most people know this soup like tom yum goong, which is with prawns
As well but Kayla is a vegetarian so everything was with as little meat as possible (fish sauce couldn't be avoided though!)
If you want to make thai food in true thai spirit you HAVE to have vegetables on the table. In Thailand its super standard to have some cut up vegetables and whole bunches of herbs on the table to eat as an addition to the usually hot food.
The dish closest to the camera is stir fried egg plant. Awesome. Superb. If I can say so myself.
The one after that is a standard meal. Pad thai. I don't like pad thai normally but I liked the one that I made.
The salad was a green papaya salad. It's very spicy and very hot. And very nice!
Abdel bought a brownie Echidna cake for dessert.
And I made bubble tea with pearls. Yummy!
So that was our awesome night. I hope you are jealous!

Dark shadows and rare blond moments...

Today we went to the cinema and saw this movie. I drooled a little over the girl in red, Eva Green! She is half Swedish and half French! HOT!
Luckily Abdel told me when the movie started to avoid confusion. They always play so many trailers before the actual movie starts!
Last time we saw the Avengers. This is about 10 min into the movie:
V: OH! Is THIS the movie then?
A: er..yes?
V: I thought the trailer was a bit long...

Time to get up and

Abdel got me a weeks free membership at his gym.
Saturday: Did legs and bum. Some cardio.
Sunday: Did chest and back and some cardio at the end. Legs and bum hurt.
Monday: Did abs and som cardio. Legs, bum, chest and back hurt.
Tuesday: Did biceps, triceps and shoulders. Legs, bum, chest, back and abs hurt.
Tomorrow: Legs again! Abdel is hard! I wonder how the rest of me is going to feel...

Blood and...BONE!

If you haven't watched this movie. You should. If you like action and street fighting, blood and amazing black guys with their tops off. This is THE movie. If you don't like fighting and blood, at least watch it for the incredible ripped, muscular, sweaty...black guys. Love it. LOVE it.

An army of pictures. Abdel's birthday part 2

This is the breakfast I made for Abdel on his birthday. I brought it in the bedroom on a tray and sang happy birthday in swedish. I forgot to take a picture where it is fresh so this is how it looked when he was done. I helped him eat the eggs because I put 10 eggs in the scramble.
When he came down we had decorated the whole house with birthday things and bananas.
and I made a nice poster
Then it was time for treasure hunt á lá pirate style.
I had painted white paper and burnt the edges for the real "parchment" effect
Then I naturally wrote everything in pirate vernacular.
The first clue led to a new clue and timtams!
The second led to cheese. of course
some pomegranates hid in the garden
but what is that
What indeed?
Oh yeah. Durian, an asian fruit that he loves
a treasure chest
a gift and some chocolate gold coins
And a new tank top. I love the red on the back
And a painting of himself! The hulk! I'm not done with it so don't complain on the abs. It took fucking ages to paint it!...
And a treasure map that led somewhere in the city
Oh yeah! A restaurant. Ribs and Rumps. My old work place.
Abdel wore the bib reluctantly...
Then the whole team came and sang happy birthday for him.
the team
The cake is a chess cake!
I made everything on the cake. Everything from scratch. It was a sponge cake filled with mango, custard and cream! I even made the outer layer of almond icing and white icing. I formed chess figures out of the white icing. It took 3 hours, so hard!
Well, that's it people!

officially a badass

Ok I have to confess it here. I just got banned from chatroulette. Me and Abdel were a bit bored and logged in to CR to see what we could find. I had aimed the camera on Abdel though and one by one guys showed up and quickly nexted us. Until I happened to come to a chinese guy that sat in a room with his back turned away from us, gaming in front of a computer. He couldn't see or hear us so I decided to pull my shirt up so, in case he would turn around he would see two boobs in the cam.

He didn't though and instead I got banned from chatroulette!
What bastards! How dare they?! Were my boobs pestering anyone? Were they an offence to anyone?? Hmmm??
No I say that, it was better in the old days when people could run around stark naked without any interference from society!
Fuck you society!
Now I'm going to have a warm tea, curl up on the bed and comfort read "The Adventures Of Sherlock Holmes" that I downloaded for free on itunes and am now reading on my computer. Great book. Highly recommended!
pusspuss

The Avengers

The day after Abdel's birthday, he treated me with tickets to Marvels's the Avengers, in 3D! I love 3D.
3D is the new black.
Anyway. The movie was fantastic. Awesome effects, witty and the best combination of actors and characters. Not to mention good looking, oh my GOD! Abdel was drooling over Scarlett Johansson and I was drooling over Chris Hemsworth (the guy that played Thor) and Scarlett as well I suppose. But the Hulk! He is so cool!
Ah do I love action and heroes! I recommend this movie, is that obvious?!

ok fine, here comes an update!

I'm sorry! I was supposed to publish some pictures from Abdel's birthday and what has happened lately.

Now is probably as bad a timing as ever because I have a terrible head ache, but I think it's ceasing so it should be fine(Abdel went to Coles and bought coke for me ). It's because I went out today, fully dressed as it's freezing in our house for some reason. And what did I discover? It's boiling outside! But I was looking for tapioca pearls for making bubble milk tea, so I couldn't just go back.
Boba pearls
Bubble milk tea with tapioca "boba" pearls.
Bubble milk tea is a big thing here in Australia since the "iced tea- culture" came with all the asian who immigrated here. Bubble milk tea is originally from Taiwan but has since it was invented 1980 spread all over Asia. The beverage is made from green tea or black tea and you can get it with or without milk, but I prefer the milky teas. The milk teas come in many flavours but my favorite is plain milk tea, strawberry milk tea, taro milk tea and honeydew melon milk tea. Abdel's favourite is by far taro milk tea. Taro is a root fruit, almost like sweet potato, and it is purple-ish. Very sweet and yummy!
I found the stupid tea and I also found a super market in china town that sold coconut juice so I had that, for I was incredible dehydrated. I also found a packet of dried mango that I bought. When I took the first bite, my body reacted by immediately trying to spit it back out. But I forced myself to chew and chew until I had eaten a whole piece. But God, it was distasteful!
Never again that chinese crap!
(I had the pleasure in seeing Abdel choke on the terrible thing before I threw it away though)
Anyway. I went to an asian market and bought some fruit and veggies for the weekend that Abdel helped me carry home, since he just got back then from a job interview. It went well and tomorrow he's going to a second one. If he gets the job it means that we have to leave Sydney. Our dear, wonderful, beloved Sydney! The city in my heart. Ah, I get all dewy eyed just from thinking about it. But I have to think positive. New city, new adventures! Cross your fingers people!

Abdel's 30:th part 1

Thanks to everyone that contributed with a video clip to Abdel's birthday! You guys did a great job! We <3 you!!

Days are flying by

OH MY GOD. Abdel's birthday is in a week exactly. It is a moment that I am both excited for and dreading. Excited for because I am fixing a really elaborate birthday experience/gift and dreading because I am fixing a really elaborate experience/gift.

Yeah I confused the hell out of you now, didn't I?
Well, like I said, I am FIXING it. I'm not done, OH MY GOD I am so not done. Just a week, eh? I need two. Or perhaps three. I shouldn't blog right now, I should fix the experience/gift. Shit. Shitshitshit.
I have told Abdel that if he doesn't like the experience/gift I'm breaking up with him. I'm not even kidding. I have even packed my bags in the case of a negative birthday experience.
How many times have I said experience now?...huh.
Got to gooooooooo
seeee yyyaaaa.
ps. I wish I could tell you about what I'm fixing but I really can't.
Abdel is reading my blog so blame him.

Arriving autumn

Autumn is beginning to arrive, it's getting colder and colder and darker earlier in the evenings. Kind of sad in a way, but now I finally have a reason to wear the Harry Potter scarf that A got me when we went to the HP exhibition! All seasons bring something good with them. And what ever the weather, I'll <3 Sydney.
